Hello. I’m so happy you’re here!
I’m Hanelore Dumitrache and SugarYums is my creative corner on the internet.
My passion for baking started on Christmas day in 2018 when I baked my first sugar cookies. Since then my love for experimenting in the kitchen has been growing and is now an all consuming passion. I love all things creative, experimental and delicious!
The past year has been one exciting ride, going from opening my Instagram page in December 2018 to winning Channel 4 / Netflix cooking show ‘Crazy Delicious’ less than 10 months later!
What types of recipes can I find on SugarYums?
My biggest passion is baking, so most of my recipes will be baked goods – from indulgent pies to luscious cakes, tarts, cookies and more!
The recipes I share here are combinations of different cuisines, unusual ingredients and imaginative decorations. I love stories and magic, so I try to add a fantastic element in my cooking (Harry Potter – yes, I’m looking at you).
As a big fan of homemade food, my recipes are delicious dishes with a magical twist. I like to analyse and scrutinise recipes in detail, so most of my recipes will be in-depth guides with step-by-step photos and methods. We’re all experimenting and learning together, so let’s make the most of it. I hope you enjoy my blog and please don’t forget to share your wonderful creations with me!
I started exploring my passion for baking whilst struggling to overcome depression. Baking quickly became my therapy session, my corner of light in a moment of darkness. With a little bit of hope, passion and love, I managed to find happiness. For anyone finding themselves in a difficult time, please do reach out. Together we can make wonderful and delicious things!
A little about me – I work as an architect in London UK and I have dabbled in the creative arts for most of my life. I have probably tried everything from painting to fashion design, jewellery making and other arts & crafts. I graduated from Central Saint Martins with a Masters in Architecture. Studying in a celebrated art school has definitely solidified my passion for all things creative!
London has been my home for the past 9 years, having moved here from Romania (Yes! Dracula’s land). I have a strong fascination for different cultures, and am obsessed with foreign languages (I speak 7 of them). My interest for different cultures also extends into dishes, and I always love experimenting with new and exciting recipes from foreign lands! My favourite cuisines are French, Moroccan, Romanian and Thai.
All the women in my family are incredible cooks, with my grandmother being the queen of baking – Mary Berry, step aside! I grew up with gorgeous home cooked meals, intricate cakes and delicious treats, and my most treasured possession is the family handwritten cookbook. Stay tuned, I will be sharing some amazing recipes from it!
